UNAUTHORIZED MIRROR // STATUS UNCONFIRMED

Some truths return whether remembered or not.

The Palinode maintains records concerning the Hollow, the Four, recurring manifestations, earlier Recensions, and the long human habit of finding the same impossible thing under different centuries.

MAJOR CONCORDANCES

Choose a rabbit hole.

THE NEARNESS

You may already know the feeling.

The Palinode uses Nearness for the recurring sensation that reality contains slightly more than it permits itself to reveal. Most people ignore it. Some search for it. Those who search long enough keep arriving at the same word.

THE FOUR

Unobserved. Unproven. Worshipped.

No direct encounter with any of the Four has been documented. Their existence is inferred from recurring patterns.

I

Morra

Memory · Loss · Preservation · Mourning · Recurrence

Morra-affinity records cluster around forgetting, grief, preserved identities, returned objects, and things that remain after social memory fails.

ENTITY STATUS: UNESTABLISHED
II

Vael

Passage · Thresholds · Transition · Direction · Descent

Vael-affinity records involve crossings, routes, movement, transition, altered distance, and places that seem to behave as decisions made physical.

ENTITY STATUS: UNESTABLISHED
III

Syth

Observation · Knowledge · Perception · Revelation

Syth-affinity material often changes meaning when understood, documented, compared, or observed under new conceptual conditions.

ENTITY STATUS: UNESTABLISHED
IV

The Fourth

Absence · Contradiction · Severance · Disobedience

The Fourth is the least stable category. Some theologians argue that classifying its associated patterns as one affinity is itself the mistake.

Connections are evidence.

ARCHIVAL INDEXES

Browse by record type.

The archive is organized as much by form as by subject. Each index exposes a different way of reading the Hollow.

ORDERS & SCHOOLS

The Palinode disagrees with itself.

Operational branches preserve the archive. Interpretive schools argue over what the archive means.

RECENSIONS

The organization keeps returning.

The Palinode has identified eleven historical institutions that may represent earlier recurrences of itself. Their continuity is unproven.

c. 2470 BCE

First Recognized Recension

Lower Mesopotamia. Nine surviving fragments. All use a term translated independently as “the Hollow.”

END STATE: UNKNOWN
c. 1810 BCE

Second Recognized Recension

Levantine trade routes. Known primarily through object inventories and disputed traveler prayers.

END STATE: FRAGMENTARY
c. 1290 BCE

Third Recognized Recension

Eastern Mediterranean. The earliest clear evidence of organized archival preservation.

END STATE: UNKNOWN
810–622 BCE

Fourth Identified Recension

Anatolia. First surviving system to distinguish four recurring affinity patterns.

221 BCE–44 CE

Fifth Recognized Recension

Scattered urban sanctuaries. Surviving records emphasize ritual disagreement and contradictory leadership structures.

END STATE: DISPERSAL

Sixth Recognized Recension

Known only from copied commentaries preserved by later institutions.

END STATE: UNKNOWN
1162–1298 CE

Seventh Identified Recension

Western Europe. Monastic networks maintained extensive Loci and Reliquary records.

END STATE: DISPERSAL
1430–1509 CE

Eighth Recognized Recension

A maritime network whose records contain the earliest known references to Orphan phenomena.

1661–1718 CE

Ninth Recognized Recension

Scholarly confraternities built large cross-reference indexes that anticipated modern Concordance practice.

END STATE: INTERNAL SCHISM
1889–1914 CE

Tenth Identified Recension

Transatlantic. Adopted photography, modern statistics, and scientific instrumentation.

END STATE: UNKNOWN

The Living Recension

The modern Palinode. Membership is believed to number in the hundreds of thousands.

PRESIDING AUTHORITY: UNPUBLISHED

DOCTRINE

Belief under revision.

The Palinode worships, investigates, argues, retracts, and preserves the retractions.

CANON I

The Hollow cannot be entered.

It is not a place or destination. It is treated as an absence in existence inferred through effects in reality.

CANON II

Affinity is not authorship.

Resemblance to one of the Four is not evidence that the associated god created or intentionally caused the phenomenon.

CANON III

The Hollow does not require remembrance.

Forgetting does not delay recurrence. The Palinode records for human continuity, not because the Hollow depends on memory.

CANON IV

Doctrine is revisable.

Contradiction is preserved rather than erased. A previous interpretation may remain archived after it is rejected.

DISPUTED CANON

There are Four.

Liturgically foundational. Evidentially unresolved. Minority schools argue that the Four are human categories imposed on a deeper process.

ACTIVE CRISIS

The Orphan Problem.

Multiple well-documented phenomena exhibit no stable affinity at all. This may represent incomplete knowledge or a broken cosmology.

REVISION LEDGER

The archive changes.

The ledger spans the history of the Living Recension. Some Folios are revised repeatedly; others remain untouched for decades before resurfacing.

INSTITUTIONAL STRUCTURE

No one sees the whole organization.

The Palinode is large enough to function globally, yet fragmented enough that even senior members rarely understand the full hierarchy.
